Empowering Indian Farmers with Anaerobic Composting
An Initiative by Shree Gir Gau Krushi Jatan Sansthan
Our Organization: Shree Gir Gau Krushi Jatan Sansthan is a registered trust , located in Gondal, Gujarat. Our mission is to help farmers become self-reliant through awareness and adoption of cow-based farming, organic farming, and sustainable farming, while also working to reduce global warming.
The Challenge: Why Farmers Struggle
Farmers often resort to chemical farming because traditional organic fertilizer production presents significant challenges:
Hard to Filter
Traditional organic fertilizers are too thick to strain properly, making them incompatible with watering and spray equipment.
Takes Too Much Time and Work
Production requires excessive labor and time, with difficulty finding willing workers.
Bad Smell
Strong odors persist on clothes and skin for up to a week.
Works Too Slowly
Conventional organic fertilizers require 5-7 months to become effective in soil.
Our Solution: The Anaerobic Composting Bag
Anaerobic composting is an efficient method of decomposing organic waste without oxygen. This system produces a ready-to-use liquid biofertilizer that is immediately active upon application.
Rapid Composting
The bag converts raw material into liquid compost within about 45 days, which is roughly half the time of conventional methods.
Filter-Free
The final product is 99% liquid, requiring minimal filtration.
Minimal Odor
It generates very little odor compared to traditional methods.
Accessible & Affordable
The bags are affordable, available in customizable sizes, and use raw materials that are easily available on a farm.
Long Shelf-Life
The resulting fertilizer can be stored for up to one year in a plastic bag buried in a pit.
Soil Health
It enhances soil pH levels and has no adverse effects on the soil, even with frequent use.
Project Investment & Expected Outcomes
Shree Gir Gau Krushi Jatan Sansthan is seeking CSR support of ₹1 Crore for its ongoing initiative, "Empowering Indian Farmers with Anaerobic Composting." This project aims to promote sustainable agriculture by training farmers and establishing anaerobic composting units that convert organic waste into high-quality compost. The initiative supports improved soil health, reduced chemical dependency, and enhanced rural livelihoods. With a strong implementation framework and grassroots reach, we ensure that every rupee is strategically utilized for long-term impact and environmental sustainability.
This chart shows how our money will be spent. It covers direct help for farmers, important training, distributing composting bags, and campaigns to raise awareness.

Expected Impact: Transforming Indian Agriculture
With this investment, we expect to make big positive changes in Indian agriculture:
1,000 Farmers Helped
We will provide important knowledge and practical skills in anaerobic composting to a thousand farmers.
150,000+ Liters of Biofertilizer
We will produce a lot of ready-to-use organic liquid fertilizer for many farmers to use.
Healthier Soil
We will greatly improve soil health, balancing its natural nutrients and making farmland more lively.
Grow Chemical-Free Crops
We will encourage growing healthier crops, which are safer for both consumers and the environment.
Move Towards Sustainable Farming
We will help create long-lasting ecological balance and strong agriculture for future generations.
A 360° Impact: Benefits for the Farmer
Increased Yield
Farmers can expect their crop yield to increase four-fold (चार गुनी हो जाएगी).
Higher Profits
The superior quality of the produce allows the farmer to get a better selling price in the market.
Time & Cost Savings
The system saves a significant amount of time and effort for the farmer. It also eliminates the need for pesticide sprays and can lead to a significant reduction or complete stop in the use of chemical fertilizers.
Benefits for Soil Health & the Environment
1
Reduced Chemical Use
The system eliminates reliance on chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
2
Soil Rejuvenation
The soil's organic carbon level increases. The anaerobic culture enriches the soil with beneficial microbes like Rhizobium, Azotobacter, and Trichoderma, which convert the soil itself into manure. It also naturally develops essential minerals and organic acids in the soil.
Environmental Protection
It protects beneficial microorganisms, minimizes harm to the environment, and helps reduce global warming.
Benefits for Consumers & the Nation
Enhanced Nutrition & Health
The resulting produce including grains, fruits, and vegetables has a much higher nutritional value. Consumers who eat this food will experience a boost in their immunity.
Longer Shelf Life
The produce has increased durability and a longer shelf life.
Positive Economic Impact
Improved public health leads to lower medical expenses for individuals. On a national scale, this reduces the burden on the healthcare system and decreases the country's reliance on imported drugs, which positively impacts the GDP.
Project Overview: A Nationwide Initiative
Shree Gir Gau Jatan Sansthan has developed a nationwide initiative to train farmers across the country in adopting anaerobic composting methods. The project is designed to reduce agricultural waste, improve soil health, and promote eco-friendly waste management techniques.
Project Objectives
  • Train farmers on the effective use of anaerobic composting bags
  • Promote sustainable farming practices to improve soil fertility and reduce chemical usage
  • Create widespread awareness about eco-friendly agricultural techniques
  • Support rural livelihoods and strengthen the agricultural ecosystem
Scope of the Project
Target Audience: Farmers in rural and semi-urban areas across all states of India.
Key Activities:
  • Practical workshops and online training modules
  • Distribution of anaerobic composting bags
  • Awareness campaigns promoting the benefits of composting and organic farming
Making Advance Jivamrut (Liquid Fertilizer)
This process creates a natural liquid fertilizer. It works best with ingredients from native cows, as they provide more nutrients than hybrid cows. The mix needs to sit for about 45-50 days to be ready for use.
Collect Ingredients
Gather cow dung, rice, buttermilk, jaggery (or molasses), cow urine, tree leaves, and kitchen waste in the amounts needed.
Mix in Drum
Put all ingredients into a large drum and combine them.
Stir in Circles
Mix everything well by stirring in a clockwise direction (same way as clock hands move).
Let it Rest
Wait 45-50 days for the mixture to become ready-to-use liquid fertilizer.

Nutrient Profile of Liquid Fertilizer
A lab analysis of a 1-liter sample of the "advance jivamrut" shows the following nutrient content:
Making Natural Pesticide
Bio-pesticides are made from natural ingredients to protect crops from pests, fungi, and diseases. The process is similar to making fertilizer but uses different ingredients and requires a waiting time of 90 days. To add regular quantities after the first batch, the initial total quantity of ingredients should be divided by 20.

Phase 2: Training & Distribution (Months 24-48)
Conduct on-site training and online sessions and distribute anaerobic composting bags.
3
Phase 3: Monitoring & Evaluation (Months 18-24)
Track adoption rates, collect farmer feedback, and assess composting outcomes.
Expected Outcomes
Farmer Empowerment: Over 400,000 farmers trained and supported in adopting sustainable practices.
Environmental Impact: A significant reduction in agricultural waste and improved soil health nationwide.
Economic Growth: Improved crop yields and reduced dependence on chemical fertilizers, leading to increased profitability for farmers.
Social Benefits: Enhanced awareness and adoption of sustainable agricultural practices among farming communities across India.
